Alcohol Impact Crew (Student) 

UEASU are concerned about the wellbeing of its members and in particular the responsible consumption of alcohol and the risks of drug misuse.  

As part of this Alcohol and Drugs awareness campaign, the SU employ a team of peer to peer welfare workers who work towards changing attitudes towards alcohol. As a practical step they intervene and assist people, whose night out has gone wrong. This is the Alcohol Impact Crew.   

The AIC work mainly at late-night clubs where they actively engage with customers in the queues and venue, working with security, first aid and management to assist with people who are distressed or may be refused entry due to drunkenness. 

This frequently involves taking care of customers immediate safety needs and then directing them home safely in the care of their friends or housemates or signposting other long-term support. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Setting up AIC Safe Space pre-event, with welfare supplies, radios, paperwork
  • Interact with customers to offer a safe and caring welcome, to the venue
  • Assisting distressed customers responsibly in line with venue safe practice procedures
  • Offer a sympathetic ear to their concerns, re-uniting them with friends.
  • Keeping ill customers safe and clean.
  • Signpost customers to support and welfare services.
  • Be an ambassador for: responsible drinking, our events, the SU and our venues
  • Ensure that all legal requirements are enforced (e.g. licensing & GDPR) and immediately report any breaches to management
  • Ensure that the premises are kept safe, clean and tidy
  • Ensure that records are kept up-to-date and confidential, all checklists are completed
  • Undertake such other tasks as requested by the Venue Management
