Student Trustee
Student Trustee
The Student Union is currently looking to recruit 2 student trustees to join the board for the next academic year. To take on this position you must still be a student for the whole of 2025-26.
This is an exciting opportunity to give back to your community, engage in important decision-making processes, and develop skills that employers look for!
What is a trustee? Trustees are the volunteers who lead charities and decide how they are run. You may have heard them called board members or governors.
Trustees have independent control over a charity’s management and administration. They play a very important role in the union, providing strategic vision and direction to the organisation and the CEO.
This is an extremely valuable experience that will set you apart from other students, providing you experience in seeing how large organisations operate, understanding finances and budgets, strategic leadership, and working as part of a diverse team.
There are 5 board meetings a year which last around 2 hours and occasional decisions required in between meetings via email. There are also opportunities to join a subcommittee, which is an additional 4 meetings a year. In total, including prep time, this is a total of 40 hours over the next 12 months.
We’re not looking for anyone with experience - just a willingness to learn and get stuck in and someone who can bring their student perspective to the issues being discussed.
